Wake Forest residents who have been here for a few years know the original Over the Falls Deli location next to B&W Hardware has been changing proprietors on a regular basis. But one of the most yummy places in that spot was a pizza place, Cannizzaro’s. The folks who owned and ran Cannizzaro’s, sold it and the name was just change to something new. I still frequent the new place because I love the location.
But for those of us who loved the home cooked Italian food made with love that Alex & Gina Cannizzaro prepared, you’re in luck. They’ve reopened a new restaurant in Rolesville named Pie-Zanos.
Pam and I had the pleasure of visiting them last week at the new place at 252 Southtown Circle, Rolesville. The menu was nearly identical to the old Cannizzaro’s and the food is just as we remembered it, delicious.
One of my favorite dishes prepared by Alex Cannizzaro has to be the baked ziti pizza. It’s worth blowing the diet on. Trust me, I did many times in the past.
They just took over another place that closed in the current location so the decor is still a work in progress. I suggested they make one of the backroom walls brick like the old location to make us old customers feel at home.
The open kitchen concept is a nice touch and loved the fact you can see what is going on and speak with the cooks.
On our trip to the new place, Pam and I split a meatball sub. It was amazing. The meatballs are even homemade there. None of this thaw and serve crap you get at other places.
If you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can ask if they can make you the breakfast pizza. It’s not on the menu but Alex said if readers asked for it he’d make it for you.
It’s got an egg sauce that would be great with grilled chick or meatballs on it.
