Police: Man threatened to ‘blow woman’s head off’ in attempted sexual assault

— Fayetteville police are looking for a man who attempted to sexually assault a woman at gunpoint Wednesday morning.

According to police, the victim was at a residence in the 400 block of Ritter Drive at about 6:20 a.m. when a man who was visiting the home displayed a handgun and ordered the victim to remove her clothing. Police said the man grabbed the victim, dragged her to the bathroom and said he would “blow her head off if she didn’t take off her clothes.”

The woman fought back and ran from the area.

Police said that the victim knew the man and identified him as Phillip Eugene Simms, 33, of the 5800 block of Somerton Place in Hope Mills.

Simms is described as being five feet ten inches tall and weighing 220 pounds with shoulder-length dread locks. He was last seen driving a silver 2009 Dodge Journey with 30-day temporary tags.

Police have obtained warrants for Simms’s arrest, charging him with attempted first-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and communicating threats.
