Police release little information in ‘suspicious’ Rolesville house fire

— It has been three days, and Rolesville police have released very little information about what happened to a mother and her twin 3-year-old sons inside a home on Friday morning.

Kristy Bryan and her sons were inside the home on Roles Saddle Drive when neighbors spotted smoke coming from the house.

“The firemen went in and broke windows,” said Denise Langlois, who lives nearby. “We saw black smoke coming out and that very, very strong smell.”

Firefighters discovered the bodies of Bryan and one of her sons inside, and the other 3-year-old was taken to UNC Hospitals, where he was listed in critical but stable condition Sunday evening.

Investigators have not said what caused the fire, but authorities have deemed the fire “suspicious.”

Another child, age 6, lives in the home but had left for school before the fire started at about 8 a.m., Police Chief Bobby W. Langston II said.

“It hurt all of us,” said Langlois. “They seemed like a very caring couple with their children. They took a lot of time with them.”

As police remained on the scene Monday evening, neighbors said they are feeling a little uneasy.

“Well, it does not look good, but let’s hope that it is a precaution and nobody is involved that we know,” said Langlois.

The Wake County Fire Marshal’s Office, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the State Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the case.

According to investigators, a gas can was found in the home.

“Absolutely tragic; our church is hurting,” said David Sims, senior pastor of Richland Creek Community Church. “The community is hurting, and at this time, it reminds you to hug your children and your grandchildren.”

The town’s mayor said the public should not be worried about their safety.
