The Wake Forest Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8466 recently held a Patriotic Art Competition at Wake Forest Middle School. Twenty students submitted and the top award went to eighth grader Jenika Vargas, the second place award went to sixth grader Chris DeGatano, third place to eighth grader Estaban Garcia and Honorable Mentions to eight grader Katelyn McHale and sixth grader Cameron Butler.
VFW members presented all of the participants with certificates and awarded Ms. Vargas $75.00, Mr. DeGatano $50 and Mr. Garcia $25. The VFW presented the Wake Forest Middle School Art Program $50 to help offset the cost of art supplies.
Commander Dennis Mecum was pleased with the art work that was turned in and stated that they had a hard choice determining the winners. Post members found all works impressive, but Ms. Vargas’ was especially moving. The top three winners along with the two honorable mentions are on being exhibited at the Wake Forest Town Hall from December 8th to December 15th, and afterward will be displayed at B&W Hardware Store on White Street for the next two weeks.
