Man arrested in Chapel Hill shooting that injured 1-year-old

— One man was arrested Sunday morning in connection to the Christmas Day shooting that left a one-year-old girl critically injured.

Shaquille Oneill Davis, 22, was arrested just before noon and charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Authorities said that investigators with the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force observed Davis getting into a vehicle in the 3500 block of Century Oaks Road in Durham, where he was taken into custody.

According to police, Davis fired shots from a vehicle as it was leaving an apartment complex in the 700 block of Trinity Court just before 6 p.m. Christmas Day. A one-year-old girl, who was identified by neighbors as Maleah Williams was taken to UNC Hospitals, where she underwent surgery and remained in critical condition.

Davis was being held at the Orange County Jail under $650,000 secured bond.
