— A recent rash of shootings in Fayetteville has police searching for suspects and weapons and neighbors on edge.

Thomas Pullen said he and his father were driving along Walker Street Saturday night in an SUV when they heard gunshots.

“Going to the store and then, the next thing you know, my back started burning,” he said. “That is about all I remember.”

One bullet hit above the passenger-side tire and lodged into the engine. The other went through the back door, through the passenger seat and hit Pullen.

“There is no way you can fire a short-barreled .45 pistol and have them line up like that unless you are laying around braced across something,” he said.

Pullen said he thinks the shooter was waiting for a car to drive by.

According to police, six shooting incidents have been reported at different locations around the city since Dec. 23.

A 24-year-old man was shot on Country Club Drive Saturday morning while driving in his car. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

While investigators do not believe the shootings are connected, they say the shooting on Walker Street is most likely connected to past shootings near that location.

“We do believe that (the shooting) has a relationship to a past shooting into an occupied dwelling in that neighborhood two weeks ago,” said Lt. Mike Geske. “A house was shot into on Kellan Circle.”

Pullen said he is thankful to be alive.

“(Thankfully) it did not hit any major organs or my spine, or I’d be paralyzed,” he said.

Anyone with information about the recent shootings is asked to call police.
