Greenville, N.C. — The son of a Greenville police officer has been charged in connection with a St. Patrick’s Day assault that started near a downtown night club and ended on the East Carolina University campus, according to NBC affiliate WITN.
Chase Montanye, 19, was charged with one count of assault inflicting serious bodily injury after he turned himself in Tuesday morning, officials said.
He is the fifth person arrested in connection with the assault of Patrick Myrick,26.
Theresa Lee, 25, Mack Humbles, 26, and Mark Privette, 33, and Jesse Wilbourn have also been charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
A police spokesperson says Montanye’s father, Sgt. Mike Montanye, who heads the Traffic Safety Unit, was not involved in the investigation of the assault and did not have access to the surveillance video. The Greenville Police Department emphasized that the choices and actions of Chase Montanye are not a reflection in any way of his father, who she says is a valued employee of the department.
Montanye was booked in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $12,500 bond.
The assault remains under investigation.
