Man accused of assault at Trump rally scheduled for court

β€” The Donald Trump rally supporter accused of assaulting a protester being escorted from the building by sheriff’s deputies is scheduled to appear in court.

Officials say 78-year-old John Franklin McGraw of Linden is supposed to appear in a Cumberland County courtroom Tuesday morning.

McGraw is charged with assault and disorderly conduct after the March rally for the Republican presidential front-runner in Fayetteville.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said the assault victim was being escorted out of Crown Coliseum after disrupting the rally, and deputies had their eyes on the stairs when the assault happened.

Five deputies have been disciplined in connection with the incident because the sheriff’s office said they witnesses the assault and did not take action. Three of the deputies were demoted and were also suspended without pay for five days. The other two were suspended without pay for three days.
