The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts will present three performances of “Pirate School! Follow Your Compass” on Thursday and Friday, April 14-15. Show times are Thursday at 10 a.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
“Pirate School! Follow Your Compass” has been described as “the most fun anti-bullying, swashbuckling adventures ever!”
This riotous solo variety show created by David Engel, allows kids ages 4 and up the chance to live the dream of the Golden Age of the Buccaneer while promoting everyday polite and social courage. The show features eye-popping puppetry, adept magic, a misbehaving cannon and the world’s coolest wearable pirate ship.
During Pirate School! the bumbling professor Billy Bones (played by Engel) teaches youngsters how to be good pirates with lessons on how to stand, talk, sing and laugh like Buccaneers; cannons boom, skulls talk, cutlasses drop and pets run amok. Ultimately Pirate School! aims to satisfy children’s universal curiosity about the briny Buccaneers of yore while subtly boosting their self-esteem and citizenship skills by prompting them to be more empathetic, responsible, courageous Corsairs.
Each performance will last approximately one hour and attendees are encouraged to come dressed as pirates!
