Two escape Fayetteville house fire by breaking out bedroom window

— Two people were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center early Tuesday after they escaped a burning home on Van Dyke Place, Fayetteville fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the home shortly before 6 a.m. Authorities said the people inside were alerted by a smoke detector, but flames prevented them from leaving through the front door.

They were able to break out through a bedroom window and escape shortly before firefighters arrived. Their names have not been released, but fire officials said they were being treated for smoke inhalation.

It’s unclear what caused the fire, but an investigation is ongoing.
