Lovato, Jonas cancel NC concerts

Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, pop singers touring together on the Future Now tour, announced on Twitter Monday afternoon that they would forgo two scheduled North Carolina appearances in protest against HB2.

“One of our goals for the tour has always been to create an atmosphere where every single attendee feels equal, included and accepted for who they are,” the artists wrote, tagging their post #RepealHB2.

The tour was scheduled for Charlotte June 30 and PNC Arena July 2.

Lovato and Jonas join a growing list of spring and summer tours that have eliminated North Carolina stops, including those by Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam.

Jonas, who rose to popularity as part of a boy band with his brothers, has dozens of relatives in the Tar Heel State. A report in the Charlotte Observer said the Jonas family could trace their North Carolina roots to the 1700s.
