John William Blackwell

John William Blackwell, 78, of Raleigh, passed away Thursday evening, June 2, 2016 at his home. He was born in Vance County, the son of the late Marvin and Betty Blackwell and was a member of Vision Baptist Church. Mr. Blackwell was a man of God. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and mentor to many. He was a retired supervisor with ITT with 31 years of service and was also retired from the NC National Guard with over 20 years of service.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, June 5, 2016 at Vision Baptist Church with the Rev. Alfred Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Marie Thorne Blackwell; daughter, Cyndi Blackwell of Garner; sons, John W. Blackwell, Jr., and wife, Tammy, of Apex and David R. Driver and wife, Jeannie, of Wendell; grandchildren, Brittany Blackwell, Trey Blackwell, Walker Driver, and Allan Driver; sisters, Katie B. Marshall and husband, Bobby, and Betty B. Mitchell and husband, Doug, of Wake Forest; brothers, Kenneth Blackwell and wife, Marie, of Wendell and Sammie Blackwell and wife, Shirley, of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Lawrence Sagendorph of Raleigh; 5 nieces and 7 nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margie B. Sagendorph and Polly B. Journigan and by her husband, Harold.
