Your Help is Needed to Understand Tragic Jason Martin Suicide

Last weekend there was a very sad tragedy that involved a local area family and our community. The moment of the event has been covered already here and by local media, here and here. What we didn’t know at the time of our visit to the church fire was it was just a part of a larger situation unfolding.

See our summary post on this event for more information.

At the church, St. Luke the Evangelist, 20 year-old Jason Terrell Martin was found dead in the parking lot of the church. He allegedly rammed into the doors of the church with his SUV, went inside, set fire to the church and then shot himself in the parking lot.

The original house fire occurred at 801 Carrington Dr in Raleigh, the home of Ronald and Melanie Martin. Allegedly Jason has a 23 year-old sister at the same address, Lauren Martin.

Just about 18 minutes after the house was reported on fire, an alarm was received the church was on fire.

We are working on a larger piece to try and understand why this all happened and the events that led to such a tragic end for Jason. So we are asking for your help.

And it looks like WRAL has the same lingering questions. See this story by WRAL on Monday evening.

This is the kind of story the busy local media just doesn’t have time to go back and cover. They are on to other things so Jason’s story will be mostly just left with a suicide. But it just feels there is more to tell to help all of us understand this sad situation.

If you or someone you knew was a friend of Jason’s or his family, please contact us. We want to respectfully tell Jason’s story and try to find if there is any lesson, warning, knowledge, or enlightenment that can come from such a sad event.

We know the Martin’s are dealing with an unbelievable loss and don’t want to intrude. But we also want to tell the story to assist our community that is dealing with the loss as well.

We’d like to learn more about what Jason was like, what he enjoyed, and what could have possibly led to a chain of events that resulted in his tragic loss.

Also, if anyone knows if Jason had any public social profile, please let us know as well. We’ve been unable to locate much on this young man so far to better understand him. If you have any photos or video of him, please upload it below.
