11 students injured when Edgecombe County bus flips, officials say

— Edgecombe County School officials said two students were seriously injured Friday morning when a bus overturned on its way to school.

There were 19 elementary students on board the bus when it flipped around 7:10 a.m. at Stallings Road and Edgewood Church Road, the school said. The county sheriff said 11 were taken to the hospital, according to WITN.

The bus driver told the sheriff the bus overturned when he swerved to avoid a deer, WITN reported. Other students were taken to area hospitals with either non-life-threatening or minor injuries.
