Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Holiday Schedule

town news

The Wake Forest Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday.

Police services and garbage and recycling collection schedules will not be affected. However, Wake Forest bus service and yard waste collection will be suspended.

Wake Forest bus service, including the Wake Forest-Raleigh Express and the Wake Forest Loop, will not be provided Jan. 16 but will resume its normal schedule Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Yard waste will not be collected Jan. 16 but will resume Jan. 17 at 7 a.m. Crews will follow the normal collection schedule beginning with Monday’s route. Collection of the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday routes will occur throughout the remainder of the week until all routes have been completed.

Bulk pick-ups will be scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 17. Residents who call after hours may leave a voicemail message that includes their name and physical address. Residents may also request a bulk pickup via email. To schedule a bulk pickup, call 919- 435-9570 or email Betty Pearce at [email protected] no later than 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.

All voicemail and email requests for bulk pickup service must include the resident’s name, physical address, and telephone number, along with a description of the bulk waste items to be collected. Any service request that does not include the required information will not be processed.

When scheduling a bulk waste pickup, Wake Forest residents are urged to follow the town’s bulk waste guidelines. Defined in the town’s code of ordinances as “refuse weighing in excess of 75 pounds each,” bulk waste includes any item that does not fit in the town-issued roll-out garbage cart. Examples of bulk waste pickup items include furniture, lawn mowers, swings, and book shelves. For more information, visit wakeforestnc.gov and search “Bulk pickup.”

Town offices will re-open Jan. 17 at 8 a.m.
