Rockin’ the Forest Resumes with Sarah Shook & the Disarmers Feb. 24

town news

The “Rockin’ the Forest” music series continues Friday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. with Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. The concert will take place at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts, 405 S. Brooks St.

A country band with a sneer, a bite, and no apologies, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers were named by Rolling Stone as one of “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know.”

In regard to the band’s 2016 album “Sidelong,” The Alternate Root wrote, “Sarah Shook and the Disarmers are a Country band out of North Carolina that wear its Rock’n’Roll smirk like a tattoo. Sarah Shook and the Disarmers sing for sad smiles and hard-luck tales. Musically, the Country rattle in the songs has an edge that might have put The Disarmers in the Alt Country family at one time. The hybrid of Rock and Country seemed so radical it was dubbed Alternative though Alt Country has been losing its first name for a few years.  Sarah Shook rides lead over a Country band in 2016 due to the blending of bloods over time as Sidelong sees a Country music future where diversity and challenges are encouraged.”

Advance tickets to Sarah Shook & the Disarmers are $10 plus tax and can be purchased online with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover credit card at www.wakeforestnc.gov/tickets-events.aspx. Advance tickets may also be purchased with cash, check or credit card at the Renaissance Centre Box Office, 405 S. Brooks St. On the day of the concert tickets can be purchased at the door. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis and seating is limited.

Assembling some of the top musical acts in our area and beyond, the “Rockin’ the Forest” music series delivers unforgettable live music and a wonderful variety of genres, including rock, Americana, and power pop. Offering local audiences first rate performances that previously required travel to downtown Raleigh, Chapel Hill, or Carrboro, Rockin’ the Forest takes place inside the intimate comfort of the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre.
