Local Wake Forest resident Dave Shingleton got a quick reprieve from his duties in Afghanistan and is back home for a couple of weeks before he heads back.
Some neighbors on his street in the Deacon’s Ridge subdivision secretly gathered outside Dave’s home on Sunday night to give him a true hero’s welcome.

Brad, his father-in-law is very proud of him and you can tell by the way he beams when he talks about Dave that he is truly loved.

Dave has a wife and three kids, Elizabeth, 13, Will, 11, and Drake, 5. Not only is the time away from home tough but on this last tour of duty there was even a house fire at his Wake Forest home last September while he was deployed.
Dave is a loving guy and loads of friends everywhere. His Wake Forest friends say he’s one of those guys who really leaves a hole in your heart when he’s gone.
He’s served in the Navy for about 27 years as a seabee and is returning from a one year deployment, his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan. After the brief visit at home he’s headed out for another one year tour in Afghanistan.
Dave is also a member of the local Wake Forest VFW Post 8466.

Welcome home Dave. It’s too bad you won’t be home longer but your friends and neighbors in Wake Forest are honored by your service.
