Jury Duty Scam – Beware

The Raleigh Police Department has received several reports of a telephone scam returning to the area. The scam involves a caller who impersonates a deputy sheriff and threatens to arrest victims if they do not comply with demands.

The scammer claims the victim is facing charges for missing jury duty. He or she then attempts to convince the victim to obtain prepaid financial cards and convey the account information. Scammers then take that information to siphon funds from the cards.

Any call threatening an arrest and demanding money to make a charge go away is a scam. No real law enforcement officer will ask for payment, a credit card or social security number for failure to appear for jury duty.
