Kathryn Marie Hardy – Wake Forest Obituary

Kathryn Marie Hardy

Jun 24, 1982 – Feb 16, 2017

Kathryn Marie Hardy, 34, passed away on Thursday evening February 16, 2017 at her residence. Katy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Stefanie Schopp and John Ketchum. She graduated from Edmond North High School in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1999. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a four-year member of The Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band. There she met her future husband, Chip Hardy. She graduated in 2004 with a B.S. in elementary education. On May 7th 2004 Katy married the love of her life. She and Chip started their life together by moving to Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Louisiana before arriving in North Carolina in 2014.

Katy began her career teaching elementary school in Kentucky and Indiana. While in Illinois, she worked at the University of Chicago with The Office of International Affairs advocating for international students. Katy was a caring and creative person. She was often in the kitchen baking and trying new recipes or at her arts table whipping up gifts for others. Katy also loved exploring the world and seeing all of God’s wonders with Chip. They traveled to such places as Norway, Swaziland, Italy, England, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Those left to treasure her memory are her loving husband, Rev. Dr. Chip Hardy; her mother, Stefanie Schopp and husband Doyle; Father, John Ketchum and wife Paula; stepmother, The Honorable Janice Loyd and partner Chris Stein; father and mother-in-law Dr. Rocky and Joan Hardy; sister, Patricia Wassall and husband Daniel; brother Jonathan Schopp; grandfathers R.G. Ketchum with wife Carol and Johnny Hereden; and extended family including loving friends.

Her absence has left an enormous void in our lives that will never be filled. We are so grateful for the time we got to spend with her and will forever treasure all of the incredible memories we had. She will be missed desperately and remembered forever as a kind, Godly woman who always gave generously of her time and herself. This was especially true at Exchange Church in Rolesville, NC where Chip and Katy are members and partners in ministry. We are comforted knowing she is in heaven with her Savior Jesus Christ.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3-5 pm Sunday afternoon February 19, 2017 in the Jacumin-Simpson Building on the campus of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

A service celebrating Katy’s life will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon February 20, 2017 in the Binkley Chapel on the Seminary campus. The graveside service will be held Friday, February 24th at 1 o’clock in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond, OK.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you join us in supporting one of Katy’s passions by giving to the “Katy Hardy Memorial Scholarship Fund” (http://iamgoi.ng/katy) that will support women and international students in higher education.
