At 8:46 AM a call went out about smoke seen from the roof of the old Riverplace factory/complex. Seemingly the entire cadre of Wake Forest fire equipment raced over to see what was going on.
Construction crews were involved with some type of demolition or work on the roof which allegedly caused the incident. In the end it appears it was just a very old unit on the roof that wound up smoldering.
Ironically the unit was not only self-described as a “dope” but had a tree growing out of it.
Besides some picturesque views from above Capital Boulevard the event was luckily uneventful and professionally handled under the guidance of Assistant Chief Davis and Assistance Chief Davis.
