Frank Edward Wells, Jr., 76, died Sunday, March 5, 2017, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was born April 4, 1940, in Hackensack, New Jersey, to the late Frank and Evelyn Smith Wells. Mr. Wells owned and operated Kohler Funeral Home in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey for many years. Frank was a Republican Councilman and Police Commissioner in the town of Wood-Ridge. He was a Past President of the Wood-Ridge Lions Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wood-Ridge where he served as treasurer and sang in the choir for 24 years. He faithfully headed the rebuilding Resurrection Fund when the church burned to the ground. He loved his family, golf, gardening and cooking.
A memorial service will be held 3pm Saturday, April 1st, at Southport Presbyterian Church, 1025 E Moore St. Southport, NC 28461.
Frank is survived by: his loving wife of 49 years, Trudy Gibbons Wells of Caswell Beach; a son, Tod Wells and wife, Gina of Cornelius; two daughters, Jodi Wells Currin and husband, Neill of Wake Forest, and Jill Wells Backstrom and husband, Lee of Wake Forest; eight grandchildren, Alec and Derek Wells, Lindsay, JT, and Bridget Madden and Sage, Taylor, and Dean Backstrom; two step-grandchildren, Zack and Allie Currin.
