Larry Matthews reunited with his wife Mabrey (“Larry! Where have you been?!”) on Christmas Eve and spent Christmas in the presence of the Lord with her and others who have gone before him. He was born in Harnett County, but resided in Raleigh most of his life. He was a faithful member of Neuse Baptist Church for fifty years.
He is survived by sons Larry Jr. (Burnita) and Marty (Marta); grandsons Shane (Kellie) and Justin (Laurie); four great-grandsons; brother-in-law, John (Belinda); sisters-in-law, Christine, Dorothy, and Cora Lee; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five brothers, Bruce, Robert, Thomas, and two infants.
Larry had a charm and wit about him that won the hearts of many. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of ICU and 4-East at Rex Hospital and Brookdale North Raleigh.
