Larry Pittman Matthews Sr. – Obituary

Larry Matthews reunited with his wife Mabrey (“Larry! Where have you been?!”) on Christmas Eve and spent Christmas in the presence of the Lord with her and others who have gone before him. He was born in Harnett County, but resided in Raleigh most of his life. He was a faithful member of Neuse Baptist Church for fifty years.

He is survived by sons Larry Jr. (Burnita) and Marty (Marta); grandsons Shane (Kellie) and Justin (Laurie); four great-grandsons; brother-in-law, John (Belinda); sisters-in-law, Christine, Dorothy, and Cora Lee; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five brothers, Bruce, Robert, Thomas, and two infants.

Larry had a charm and wit about him that won the hearts of many. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of ICU and 4-East at Rex Hospital and Brookdale North Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, December 28, 2017 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodland Baptist Church Baptist Men, 190 Woodland Church Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587.

Friends may visit with the family from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017 prior to the service at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest. (919) 556-5811
