The Franklin County Sheriff is reporting one firefighter with the Justice Rural Volunteer Fire Department was tragically killed in a line-of-duty accident. The firefighter killed was reported to be the driver of the overturned tanker truck.

Another firefighter was reported injured. However they were treated and released from a local hospital.

I was on the scene after the accident and the sorrow and pain could be felt from not only the police, EMS, and firefighters dealing with the tragedy at the scene, but also the local residents who stood silently and just observed the activity further down the road.

Emotions were raw as you would expect and in this small community, who values their firefighters as heroes, undoubtedly the unexpected loss of one of their members was difficult to fathom.

Hugs were traded, people were cared for, and members of the public safety and first responder community both dealt with what they had to do and comforted each other at the scene.

From the Facebook page of the Justice Fire Department there is this picture of a tanker truck that appears to resemble the type involved in the accident.

The Franklin County Sheriff said he did not believe speed was a factor in the accident.
