Dora Marie Salazar, 89 of Youngsville, NC, entered into her eternal rest on February 2, 2018 surrounded by her children at Wake Med Hospital. She was born on October 28, 1928 in Blanco, New Mexico, the daughter of the late Aaron Valdez and Eugenia (Jane) Gonzalez Valdez.
Mrs. Salazar is survived by her children, Louie Salazar (Kathryn), Lila Hedlund (Terry), Lori Mullen (David), Abel Salazar (Shelly); grandchildren, Jason Salazar (Jennie), Aimee Peter (Jason), Josh Salazar (Kelly), Nicole Salazar Loehr (Nick), Samuel Salazar, Shawn Salazar, Sarah Mullen Compton (Matt), Rachel Mullen, Megan Salazar Rainwater (Matt) Noah Salazar and Parker Salazar. Great grandchildren, Jackson Salazar, Cameron Salazar, Josie Salazar, Diego Salazar, Logan Rainwater, Connor Rainwater, Amelia Rainwater, Ben Mullen, Madelyn Peter, Elyse Peter, JJ Peter, Noah Grace Peter and Lucy Salazar; sisters, Isabel Ibarra, Lucille Bourquin (Leslie), Becky LaRue (Rick), Lena Chipps and the late Jane Jacques, Carolyn Leyba, George Valdez, Aaron Leo Valdez. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, Isabella Diaz and friends.
Mrs. Salazar retired from Turlock Residential Assisted Living where she was responsible for the medicine room and dispensing of medications for residents. In 2002, Mr. and Mrs. Salazar moved to Columbus, Ohio to live near their daughter and younger son. In 2009, they moved with their daughter Lila and husband Terry to Youngsville, N.C. Miss Dora enjoyed Youngsville attending most of the community events.
In her younger years she was very artistic and enjoyed crafts of all types and spending time with her grandchildren. They have wonderful memories of times with their nana and papa. She and her husband volunteered for many years as Sunday school teachers at Bethel Temple Turlock. Her favorite hymn was Blessed Assurance and in her family she was known as the prayer warrior. Miss Dora was famous among family and friends for her baking from scratch, her Spanish rice and food of the Southwest.
A memorial service will be held in March at Christ our Hope Presbyterian Church, 203 Capcom Avenue, #107, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
