“Social Media Awareness Week” is May 21-25

Town of Wake Forest News

The Town of Wake Forest will recognize May 21-25 as “Social Media Awareness Week.”

The Board of Commissioners approved the observance during its May 1 work session following a presentation by Wake Forest High School (WFHS) DECA students Anna Beckom and Krystian Serwinski highlighting their “Post Positive” campaign. The initiative entailed the WFHS DECA Chapter encouraging local middle school and high school students to “post positive” on social media or “in a way that reflects you the way you want others to see you.”

The overall goal of the campaign was to raise awareness about the importance of using social media safely and responsibly.

The Board of Commissioners acknowledged the “post positive” concept’s relevance to both youth and adults and agreed to designate the week of May 21 as “Social Media Awareness Week.”

Mayor Vivian Jones will formally announce the observance by reading a proclamation during this evening’s Board of Commissioners meeting. The proclamation encourages Wake Forest citizens “to be cognizant of their social media use and have discussions with youth concerning using social media in a positive manner.”
