Renaissance Centre Offering Several Interactive Art Classes in March

There’s still time to register for several interesting and interactive art classes and workshops coming up in March at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts, 405 S. Brooks St.

Designed to excite and develop the artistic vision and creative talents of both youth and adults, these courses will spark the imagination and inspire a lifelong connection to the visual and creative arts and art making.

Each class is taught by an accomplished artist-instructor in a relaxed environment that encourages exploration of process and self-expression. Class offerings cover a range of media and class sizes are limited to allow for attention to individual interests and skill development.

On Mondays from March 9 through April 27 the Renaissance Centre will offer Private Voice Lessons in half-hour increments between 4-6 p.m. for ages 12 to adult. Private voice lessons are a great opportunity to gain foundational knowledge and skills in a pressure-free setting. Whether you are looking to improve your technique, prepare for an audition or learn a new hobby, private lessons will give you the individual attention you need to share your voice with confidence. The cost is $ 250 and the instructor is Heather Dahlberg. For more information, call Renaissance Centre Specialist Cathy Gouge at 919-435-9567.

From March 12 through April 30 the Renaissance Centre will offer Beginning Keyboard and Beginning Guitar. Both classes are offered from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for ages 8-12 and from 6-7 p.m. for ages 13 to adult. The eight-week classes will cover the basics of each musical instrument, including general theory, scales, chords, ear training and hand dexterity. The cost of each class is $ 120 and the instructors will be provided by Progressive Music Center.

The Renaissance Centre will offer Glass Mosaic Workshops for ages 9-12 on Tuesday, March 17, from 4-6 pm and Saturday, March 21, from 10 am – noon. A Glass Mosaic Workshop for ages 13-17 will also be offered on March 21, from 1-3 p.m. In these workshops, students will learn about glass grafts and create an 8″ x 6″ glass mosaic fish that can hang in a window or on a wall. All pieces will be pre-fired, so there will be no sharp pieces. Each student’s finished mosaic will be fired and available for pick-up at the Renaissance Centre one week after the workshop. The cost for each workshop is $ 75 and all materials are included. Linda Martin from Studio M Glass will be the instructor.

Finally, the Renaissance Centre will host adult Glass Mosaic workshops for ages 18 and older on Tuesday, March 24, from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. In these workshops, students will learn how glass behaves when fired, how to cut, nip, grind and sand edges to prepare for firing. There will be a choice of two 5″x7″ items to create. Both will be glass mosaic sun catchers or wall art. Each student’s finished mosaic will be fired and available for pick-up at the Renaissance Centre one week after the workshop. The cost for each class is $ 75 and all materials are included. The instructor will be Linda Martin from Studio M Glass.
