One of the two McDowell Drive entrances to Fletcher Village, off Stadium Drive, will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
Fred Smith Co., a private contractor working on behalf of the Town of Wake Forest, will close the eastern McDowell Drive entrance so crews can install utilities as part of the Stadium Drive Complete Street Project. The other McDowell Drive entrance into Fletcher Village, situated to the west, will be open and accessible.
Signage and flaggers will be in place to safely direct traffic flow through the work area.
In addition, motorists should continue to expect delays along Stadium Drive daily from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. until the project is completed.
Over the next several weeks, crews will continue to alter normal traffic patterns from Glencoe Drive to North Avenue. Lane closures and traffic shifts will be necessary to allow crews to relocate water utilities and install a storm drain
Motorists who travel through the area are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time or consider using an alternate route.
Extending from Capital Boulevard/US 1 to North Wingate Street, the Stadium Drive Complete Street Project is designed to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety, as well as traffic flow. Once completed, the typical section of Stadium Drive will include three lanes with curb and gutter, left-turn lanes at intersections and driveways and a 10-feet wide multi-use path on the south side. Other features will include five-foot wide sidewalks on the north side, wide striped shoulders on each side of the roadway, a pedestrian refuge island, high visibility crosswalks and ramps, and accessible transit stops.
