US 1/Capital Boulevard Improvements public meetings on Oct. 9 & 11

Town of Wake Forest News

The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will host public meetings about proposed improvements along US 1/Capital Boulevard in Raleigh on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Wake Forest on Thursday, Oct. 11.

The NCDOT is proposing to convert US 1/Capital Boulevard to a controlled-access highway from I-540 to Purnell Road (S.R. 1909)/Harris Road (S.R. 1931). A controlled-access highway is one on which access is provided only via ramps at interchanges. Some cross-streets will be grade separated, and no driveway connections will be allowed.

The purpose of the project is to reduce traffic congestion and improve travel times and maintain regional mobility and local connectivity. A map of the proposed improvements can be viewed or downloaded on the NCDOT public meetings website at www.ncdot.gov/news/public-meetings/Pages/U-5307-2018-10-09.Aspx.

The location, date and time for each public meeting are as follows:

Raleigh Location

  • Tuesday, Oct. 9; 4-7 p.m.

  • Lifepointe Church, 9500 Durant Road

  • Raleigh, Wake Forest, NC 27614

Wake Forest Location

  • Thursday, Oct. 11; 4-7 p.m.

  • Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St.

  • Wake Forest, NC 27587

Both meetings will have an informal, open house-style format, so there will not be a formal presentation. Attendees may come any time during the prescribed hours to view the conceptual designs and ask questions. Information at both meetings will be the same.

Comments and questions can be submitted at the public meetings or via US mail, email, or phone through Sunday, Nov. 11. Comments can also be submitted online at www.ncdot.publicinput.com/US-1-Capital-Boulevard

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Persons requiring these services are urged to contact Diane Wilson at 919-707-6073 or pdwilson1@ncdot.gov as early as possible.
