The Wake Forest Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, for the New Year’s holiday. Police service will not be interrupted, but sanitation schedules and bus service will be affected.
The collection of garbage and recycling for the week of Dec. 31 will change as follows: Monday’s route will be collected according to the normal schedule. From that point forward, the week’s collection schedule will operate one day later than normal and extend into Saturday. So, for example, Tuesday’s route will be collected Wednesday, and Friday’s route will be collected Saturday.
Yard waste collection will occur Monday as normal, be suspended Tuesday and resume Wednesday at 7 a.m. Crews will follow the normal collection schedule beginning with Monday’s route. Collection of the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday routes will occur throughout the remainder of the week until all routes have been completed.
To ensure that all neighborhoods are serviced properly, Wake Forest residents are urged to leave their normal yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday. Please avoid placing items on or near mailboxes, utility boxes, utility poles or other fixed objects.
Bulk pick-ups will be scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 2. To schedule a bulk pick-up, complete the online bulk waste pick-up request form at www.wakeforestnc.gov/online-bulk-waste-pickup-request-form.aspx by 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31.
Residents without internet service can schedule their pick-up by calling 919-435-9570 by 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31. Residents who call after hours may leave a voicemail message. All voicemail requests for bulk pick-up service must include the resident’s name, physical address, and telephone number, along with a description of the bulk waste items to be collected. Any service request that does not include the required information will not be processed.
When scheduling a bulk waste pick-up, Wake Forest residents are urged to follow the Town’s bulk waste guidelines. Defined in the Town of Wake Forest Code of Ordinances as “refuse weighing in excess of 75 pounds each,” bulk waste includes any item that does not fit in the Town-issued roll-out garbage cart. Examples of bulk waste pick-up items include furniture, lawn mowers, swings, and book shelves. For more information, visit wakeforestnc.gov and search “Bulk pickup.”
Beginning Monday, Dec. 31, Wake Forest will collect and recycle live Christmas trees from residential homes according to the normal yard waste collection schedule. The trees will be ground into mulch and made available for free to residents upon request. Orders for mulch are currently being accepted by emailing Betty Pearce at email@example.com or calling 919-435-9570.
All Wake Forest residents whose yard waste is collected by the Town may participate in the “Treecycling” program. To recycle your Christmas tree, please remove all decorations, tinsel, nails, stands and bags from the tree and set it behind the curb for collection. Artificial trees cannot be recycled.
Wake Forest Bus Service, including the Wake Forest-Raleigh Express and the Wake Forest Loop, will not be provided Tuesday, Jan. 1, but will resume its normal schedule Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Town offices will re-open Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 8 a.m.
Wake Forest residents are encouraged to stay informed about the Town’s garbage, recycling and yard waste collection programs, including changes to the normal collection schedules, by signing up for the “Waste Wizard.” Available on the Town’s website at www.wakeforestnc.gov/waste-wizard.aspx, the Waste Wizard is an interactive tool that allows users to sign up for waste collection reminders and download collection schedules. As a bonus, the Waste Wizard is provided as a function on the Town of Wake Forest app. For more information or to download the Town’s app, visit www.wakeforestnc.gov/app.aspx.
