Olga Elizabeth Olechovsky – Obituary

Olga E. Olechovsky, 97, of Raleigh, died Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Transitions LifeCare. Born, March 7, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Belovich) Tasker. Olga was a graduate of the former Duncannon High school and a member of both St Agnes Church in North Huntington from 1957 to 2008 and St Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Raleigh.

She grew up learning the value of hard work on a farm where they raised cows, corn, and produce that they took into town on a regular basis. One of her favorite childhood memories was tending the cows in the field, making sure they would not wander into another pasture. Upon graduating from high school, 3rd in her class, Olga took a job at the highway department working for the state of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. She loved to travel with her sister Margaret to places such as New York City, Niagara Falls, Atlantic City, and Washington D.C. One of her highlights was attending President Eisenhower’s 1st term Inauguration.

Olga was a dedicated wife, mother and a proud grandparent. She was the widow of the late Frank Olechovsky (1993) for 37 years. Together they enjoyed gardening and traveling to visit family including her late brother John’s cottage in Ocean City, MD. As an avid gardener, Olga would grow more vegetables in the garden than she needed and give the surplus to family and friends. She was also a master baker making cookies, poppy seed cakes, and nut rolls for holidays and special occasions. You could not leave her house without taking home some of those delicious treats. Growing flowers and bird watching were some of her favorite pastimes.

Surviving are her son David F. Olechovsky and his wife Kathleen of Raleigh, her granddaughter Michelle O. Norris and her husband Kevin Norris of Raleigh, and her sister Lillian Yohn of Port Royal, PA.

She was preceded in death by her brother Emil A. Tasker and three sisters Helen Rogers, Margaret Miller, and Pearl McGuire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at St Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Raleigh.
