Reports of a brown bear in Wake Forest were confirmed on Tuesday by a local eyewitness. The brown bear (Ursus Arctos) typically does not roam anywhere near North Carolina. That’s what made this sighting so unusual.
Risking life and one limb a staff photographer from the Wake Forest News spent about six seconds stalking the bear to get the picture you see above.
“I was frightened out of my mind till I saw the red ascot,” said the photographer. “I don’t know much about bears but I’ve never seen Smokey or Yogi wearing an ascot. I quickly came to the conclusion there was nothing to worry about. Besides, it was only about eight inches long and stuffed,” the photographer quipped.
Anyone spotting the bear in Wake Forest is encouraged to ask their dog to fetch it.
