Myrtle Holmes – Obituary

Myrtle Cooke Holmes died peacefully at her home on December 12, 2020.  She was born to the late Ike and Oma Cooke on April 20, 1934.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Maylon DeVan, William, ID, Wesley, Elton and Garland Cooke.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Gary McNair officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Social distancing is appreciated and face coverings are required.

Myrtle is survived by her husband of 68 years, Douglas Holmes, three daughters, Elaine Johnson and husband Jimmy, Darnell Alford and husband Danny and Rochelle Gilliam and husband Wayne.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dana Perry (Grady), Jacqueline Holden (Ernie), Chuck Tingen, Michael Gilliam (Kim), Tori Inscoe (Brannon), Kristi Van Valkenburgh (Ryan) and Grant Gilliam (Heather).  She was MaMa to 13 great-grandchildren and a multitude of others who lovingly referred to her as MaMa.  She is also survived by a sister, Annie Rogers and a brother, Joseph Cooke (Joann).

Myrtle was a devoted member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir.
