I went into debt by taking out a large loan and ran up my credit card to help a “friend” who swore they’d pay me back.
Of course, that didn’t happen, and I’m now in debt of 60K.
I signed up with Burlington Financial Group who was to help get me out of debt. We worked out a payment plan, which I paid every month for 23 months. However, after I sent them the first collection letter, I never heard from them again. EVER. I called and called and called but could never get through to an associate (or whatever they’re called). I always spoke with an admin. who promised I’d be called back, which never happened.
At this point, BFG has over $16,800 of my money. I hired a lawyer, but BFG won’t respond to them.
I filed a claim with the BBB, but Burlington won’t respond to them. As a result, my credit has tanked, I’m in worse debt after signing up with Burlington, and I’m at my wit’s end.
I DO NOT want to file for bankruptcy which was why I hired Burlington. But, unfortunately, my life has been infinitely worse since hiring them, and I don’t know what to do.
How do I get my money back from BFG?
It would help if you did not rule out bankruptcy. For less than $2,000, you can legally eliminate your debt tax-free in 90 to 120 days. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy is the fastest and least expensive way out of debt.
According to Google, right now, Burlington Financial Group has a 1.2-star rating with 24 reviews.
That might even be a new record low in debt relief.

If you have a lawyer representing you, you might want to talk about advancing your issue. It might be worth having a discussion with your attorney about a possible small claims court action.

It seems as if you’ve learned the lesson about loaning money to friends.
