Irma Arismendi – Obituary


Irma Martinez Arismendi, 86 of Wake Forest, NC, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022.  She was born October 12, 1935 in Brownsville, TX to the late Jesus and Herminia Martinez.   She married Andrés V. Arismendi on August 26, 1949, and they had three children: Andrés M. Arismendi, Jr. (October 12, 1952), Ana Yolanda Arismendi (October 30, 1954) and Armando Arismendi (August 11, 1957). She was a devoted grandmother to 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Irma was a woman of faith and regularly attended Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church when she lived in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was devoted to the Virgin Mary and was a member of The Schoenstatt Center. Her faith brought her to many shrines both in the U.S. as well as travel abroad to the Holy Land in Israel. Irma loved to watch movies and went to the cinema frequently, and she had an impressive movie collection. Her favorite movies included the Lord of The Rings trilogy, any movie featuring Dwayne Johnson, and Coco to name a very small few. During her youth, she loved listening to music, especially songs sung by Elvis Presley and Los Panchos. The song she and her husband referred to as “our song” was “Sin Ti”, a song by Los Panchos. Anybody who knew and loved Irma also knew had a big sweet tooth, especially for Hershey bars.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Andrés V. Arismendi, son; Andrés M. Arismendi, Jr., daughter: Ana Yolanda Arismendi  sisters, Martina Garza, Concepcion “Conchita” Martinez, Margarita “Margie” Gutierrez, Josefa “Josie” Taméz, and Alicia “Alice” Lozano, brothers,  Moisés Martinez and Francisco Martinez.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her son; Armando Arismendi (Tracy), of Wake Forest, NC, grandsons; Juan José Garcia (Nicole), Isaac Scott Murov, Andrés Arismendi III, granddaughters; Ana Lisa Ramon, Julie Torres (Joey Torres), Jacquel Lynn Arismendi (Justin Pilgrim), Gina Marie Arismendi (John Jenkins), brother: Jesus Martinez, Jr. (Linda), Portland, OR.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, January 31, 2022, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home and Cremation Service by Father Bruce Bavinger. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM Sunday evening, January 30, 2022 at the funeral home.  A rosary service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday evening in the chapel.
