Wake Forest Police Department Narcotics Unit Sgt. L.N. Collie has been named the 2015 North Carolina Narcotics Officer of the Year for Eastern North Carolina.

Sgt. Collie was recognized during the 2015 North Carolina Narcotics Enforcement Officer’s Spring Conference at Carolina Beach, NC.

The award is presented annually to two officers – one from eastern North Carolina and one from western North Carolina – who have employed innovative ideas during a drug investigation. The impact of the case(s) they have investigated on the area in which they work; the type and amount of seizures, including United States currency and property; and the number of arrests and convictions are all considered when selecting the Narcotics Officer of the Year.

Sgt. Collie was nominated by detectives in the Wake Forest Police Department’s Narcotics Unit and voted on by NCNEOA executive board members. The award was presented by Captain Dennis Wooten of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office.

During the presentation Wooten noted Sgt. Collie’s selection was based in part on investigative techniques Sgt. Collie utilized during an eight-month investigation that resulted in the seizure of large amount of marijuana, opiates, money and firearms.
